A. Restructure Council Agenda
The most suggested opinion by most of the parish council member was to have a set time for each area or topic discussed in the meeting. Topics should be assigned a time limit, and there should be a timekeeper that will make sure the discussions do not exceed the time assigned.
Different points of view were discussed on whether or not we should continue the faith sharing exercise within every parish council meeting. Most of the members agreed that faith sharing is an essential part of the meeting.
With regards to report sharing, most members believe that it is important to cover at every monthly meeting, while keeping reports brief.
Tomas- believes that it is okay to hold the same agenda structure as long as time is managed.
B. Should we continue discussing Synod goal decrees, along with sub-committee reports?
Irma- synod decrees should still make part of our agenda. It would not be wise to eliminate them from the agenda and not use them as a reference.
Many organizations are already implementing many of the synod decrees. We should find the way to introduce to the participating organizations and ministries the decrees that have not been implemented.
Socorro- as a council, we have not progressed on synod decree discussions and implementation because we have tried to bite a bigger piece than what we are capable of eating.
Irma- we should evaluate what we have done with the synod decrees, where we are at, and what is it that we have to do in order to be successful as a parish.
7. New Business
A. Portable Building Request Denied
Fr. Bernie- The Patterson Irrigator has announced that the city’s Planning Commission rejected the proposal for a building next to Fr. Conner’s hall. Neighbors have signed a petition opposing the project. The City’s Planning Commission has asked for some improvements to the proposal submitted. They want a beautiful plan that includes landscaping and window installation on the building. They comment that they don’t want an eye sorer. The requested improvements will raise the expense from $40,000 to about $60,000.
The building will provide space for the parish’s youth. It will provide room for youth group meetings and other related activities like liturgy of the word for children.
Fr. Mike- believes that all youth committees must have an opinion on this decision. Input from the neighbors would also be a good idea.
8. Public Forum
9. Pastor’s Report
The dioceses of Stockton has been asked to implement the leadership process ARISE. Planning will began this year and the program will be implemented next year in October, God willing.
Parish must select a committee to lead and implement this program.
First meeting for orientation will be on October 20th at the parish of Our Lady of Fatima in Modesto at 1:30 p.m.
10. Report Sharing.
Reports sharing should be done on a monthly basis. The report should cover next month’s planned calendar.
11. Correspondence
12. Open to Membership
Socorro- The rectory needs to be re-painted. It can be done voluntarily on a weekend.
13. Closing Prayer/ Volunteers for Next Meeting- closing prayer offered by Norma Plaugher. Volunteers for November 4 Meeting: Opening prayer: Rhonda Silva, Faith sharing: Brian Wright, Closing Prayer: Angelina Navarro.
14. Meeting adjourned at 9:09 PM.
