Society of Saint Vincent de
Paul
Like that of its
founder, Frédéric Ozanam, the vision of the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul
"is to embrace the world in a network of charity."
Blessed Frederic Ozanam
(1813 - 1853) was founder of the Society of St. Vincent
de Paul. Frederic was a husband and father, professor
and servant of the poor. He founded the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul as a young student with others of the
Sorbonne in Paris. Sister Rosalie Rendu, a Daughter of
Charity, is considered a mentor of Frederic and of the
Society of St. Vincent de Paul as she taught the first
members the art of helping the poor and the sick.
Frederic's writings on social justice anticipated the
first social encyclical of our modern times, Rerum
Novarum.
St. Vincent de Paul
(1581-1660) was founder of the Congregation of the
Mission, Daughters of Charity, Confraternities of
Charity, and Ladies of Charity. A man of deep faith,
keen intellect, and enormous creativity, he has become
known as the "The Apostle of Charity" and "Father of the
Poor." His contributions to the training of priests and
organizing parish missions and other services for the
poor shaped our Church's role in the modern world.
St. Louise de Marillac
(1591 - 1660), a contemporary of St. Vincent, was
inspired and directed by Vincent's spiritual leadership.
She was Vincent's collaborator in founding the Daughters
of Charity and organizing hospitals for the sick poor,
asylums for the orphaned, workshops for the unemployed,
championing literacy for the uneducated, and
establishing standards for local charities. Louise was a
wife, mother, teacher, nurse, social worker and
religious foundress.
Blessed Rosalie Rendu,
DC (1786 - 1856) was a Daughter of Charity who
served for 54 years in the Mouffetard area, the most
impoverished district of Paris. Emmanuel Bailly, the
President of the Society, sent the founding members of
the Society to Sister Rosalie for guidance and
direction. Sending them on home visits, she formed them
in the spirit of St. Vincent, teaching them how to serve
the poor with respect and compassion.

What services does the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul
at Sacred Heart Church provide?
The primary role of St. Vincent
de Paul is to bring the love and peace of Christ to
those who are suffering.
If that calls for food, clothing
or other assistance we will provide it with the love of
Christ This unity with Christ is what separates the
society of St. Vincent de Paul from any other social
service agency
Programs:
1. Home Visits
bring the love of Christ to those who are in need of
food, clothing, prayer or other assistance
2. Rent and
Utility Assistance helps pay for rent or
utility bill. This is done on emergency bases only.
3. Prescription
Drug Program will assist those who do not have
drug insurance.
4. March for
Hunger is an annual walk-a-ton, during the
month of March. The funds raised are used to help
provide food throughout the year.
5. School Backpack
provides a child with a backpack full of school
supplies.
6. Thanksgiving
Baskets provide food for Thanksgiving dinner to
those who would otherwise go without.
7. Jesus Cuisine
offers a hot meal plus a sack lunch to those who are
hungry and homeless
8. The
Giving Tree distributes Christmas gifts to
children in need. Gifts are donated by the Community
9. Caring Hearts
provides a baby basket filled with new and gently used
clothing, handmade items and other baby goods. The
handmade items are donated by women who sew, knit, and
crochet. Their talents are greatly appreciated and
create a warm welcome for the new born baby.

¿Qué hace la Sociedad de San
Vicente de Paúl?
La función principal de San Vicente de Paúl es
llevar el amor y la paz de Cristo a aquellos que están
sufriendo. Si que llama a la asistencia alimentaria,
ropa u otros que se le proporcione el amor de Cristo
Esta unión con Cristo es lo que separa a la sociedad de
San Vicente de Paúl de cualquier otra agencia de
servicio social:
Programas:
1. Visitas al Hogar llevar el
amor de Cristo a aquellos que están en necesidad de
alimentos, ropa, oración o asistencia de otra índole
2. Asistencia de Alquiler y Servicio Público ayuda a pagar la factura de
alquiler o de servicios públicos. Esto se hace en las
bases de emergencia.
3. Programa de medicamentos recetados ayudará a aquellos
que no tienen seguro para medicamentos.
4. Marcha por el Hambre es un evento anual a pie-a-ton, durante el mes de
marzo. Los fondos recaudados se utilizan para ayudar a
proporcionar alimentos a lo largo del año.
5. Mochila escolar ofrece a un niño con una mochila
llena de útiles escolares.
6. Canastas de Acción de Gracias proporcionar alimentos
para la cena de Acción de Gracias a los que iría de otra
manera sin él.
7. Jesús ofrece cocina una comida caliente, más un
almuerzo para aquellos que están hambrientos y sin hogar
